1. WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU CURRENTLY SEEING IN THE RESTORATION INDUSTRY?

Technology and innovation continue to have the greatest impact within property damage industry. New products enter the market every day that enhance our ability to quickly and effortlessly exchange loss information. Software and mobile apps continue to develop and become more user friendly, so restorers can track time and materials, document drying conditions and precisely locate a service vehicle — all with a smart phone. It’s a bird, it’s a plane — no, it’s a drone. Look for drones to be utilized more as a tool in disaster planning, response and relief operations.

2. WHAT ACHIEVEMENT — PERSONAL OR PROFESSIONAL — ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF AND WHY?

My most satisfying professional achievement has been earning both the CR and WLS certifications. I first learned about the advance certification program about five years ago. I knew at that precise moment that if I wanted to be considered one of the best, I needed to earn both designations. This experience challenged me physically, mentally and emotionally for over two years. At times I wanted to quit, but didn’t. I was determined to reach my goal. For the very first time in my working career, I felt that I accomplished something truly significant. Along the way, I have met some incredible people, established new lifelong friendships and become more involved with the RIA.

3. WHAT DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST ABOUT BEING IN THE RESTORATION INDUSTRY?

Everything! I have developed highly competent skills that I am able to utilize each and every day to help people and families during the most challenging times of their lives. I live the RIA motto: “We (restorers) make it better.” I truly love working and collaborating with other outstanding industry leaders and helping the next generation of restorers.

4. WHO HAVE BEEN YOUR MENTORS IN THE INDUSTRY?

Pete Consigli, Ken Larsen, John Otero and Lee Senter. While these individuals may not know they have been mentors to me, I consider each of them an industry leader and friend. My relationships with each of them have had a powerful and positive effect on me in a variety of personal, academic and professional situations. They have been my motivation to become an instructor.

5. WHY ARE YOU INVOLVED WITH ORGANIZATIONS LIKE RIA?

In my opinion, the future and viability of insurance damage repair industry is uncertain. Restorers continue to deal with declining profits, market consolidation and inflexible service level agreements. Sound familiar? I am proudly involved with RIA for two main reasons. First, it offers an opportunity to share ideas and collaborate with other like-minded restoration leaders that constructively work together to advance the industry to the benefit of all. Second, it has opened doors and continues to create opportunities to advance my career. The only way I know to show my appreciation is to get involved and fiercely protect the future of our industry and the profession of damage repair. Get Involved!
