Delmhorst Instrument Co., a U.S. manufacturer of precision moisture-measurement instruments widely used across the restoration, building trades, lumber, and agricultural industries, has announced its acquisition by Nielsen-Kellerman (NK) of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania. The sale marks the end of 64 years of Laurenzi family ownership and the start of a new chapter for the 80-year-old brand.
Founded on William Delmhorst’s original meter design to trace building leaks and later guided by Aristide Laurenzi’s vision, Delmhorst has spent eight decades building U.S.-made instruments for moisture detection, production, quality control, and inspection. Its moisture meters are a fixture in water-damage restoration, where accurate readings are essential to establishing dry standards and documenting drying progress.
“While this marks the end of an era for our family, it is the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the business,” said Tom Laurenzi, CEO of Delmhorst Instrument Co. “We have carefully chosen a successor in Nielsen-Kellerman who shares our core values and is deeply committed to maintaining the high standards of rugged, robust, U.S.-made products and technical expertise.”
Nielsen-Kellerman, founded in 1978, designs and manufactures premium, rugged, U.S.-made environmental and performance-measurement instruments — best known for its Kestrel line of weather and environmental meters. NK will provide the vision, energy, and resources to build on Delmhorst’s legacy and expand the brand’s capabilities.

“Thank you for your decades of trust, your partnership, and for allowing us to be a small part of your success,” the Laurenzi family shared in a message to customers. “We are incredibly proud of the legacy we’ve built together, and we face the future with gratitude.”
