Q: I’m considering selling but feel I’m on a collision course with reality. How do I best approach it?
JT says: First, without a plan… reality wins.
Second, you stated, ‘I’ve had many conversations trying to figure out what to do’. Here’s a tip that’ll determine focus:
- What is being talked about
- How is it being talked about
- Who is invited to the conversation
It’s possible your hesitancy stems from asking the wrong people who are unable to provide a solid plan or solution.
Third, are you curious for answers, or committed? When simply curious, you’ll sort of ask (and sort of listen). If committed, you’ll really ask.
Fourth, I’ve learned (after 25 yrs. advising owners), reality is rarely devastating… but avoiding it can be. Your retirement is at stake. Please do not cross your fingers and hope it all works out. It rarely does.
Get the right people involved early. They’ll provide answers and guidance, building confidence to navigate the road ahead. Your retirement will thank you.
