I will be the first to admit, I loathe the whole “New Year, New You” thing. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about goals, growth, and self-improvement. However, it’s very unlikely someone is going to completely reinvent themselves in the new year. As humans, we are far more successful working on one or two areas of improvement at a time, than trying to redo our whole lives.
While I am certainly no psychologist, I can testify that if I run too hard at too many things (those three words being key) for too long, I burn myself out, and then struggle to make any gains at all. Those who know me know I like to do it all – or at least try. In my head I know that’s impossible, yet I still often act as if I can. It’s all a work in progress over here.
In 2023, what if – instead of doing it all, and trying to fully recreate ourselves – we instead look for balance. That doesn’t mean every single day will be the perfect balance between work and personal life, or eating healthy vs. eating junk. But it does mean we at least try, and it’s likely that more days than not, we will find a decent balance. If you do the math, making small incremental changes every single day yields to incredible gains – vs. short bursts of efforts!
Restorers, remember: the harder you chase and work, the more serious and deliberate your rest needs to be! You cannot serve your team and your customers if you are burned out! Also, take advantage of the resources around you – colleagues, other local businesses that offer services that can help you out, and even resources right here in C&R.
Let’s take 2023 by the horns, strive for small gains every single day, and make it a successful year of growth together!
