Top Five Things I’ve Learned Growing a Restoration Business

It seems like just yesterday, we had embarked on an adventure to start a restoration company. I remember looking at my dad’s garage as it was overfilled with drying equipment bought from Menards trying to figure out what we were going to do with the winter coming. Fast-forward to last year, when I exited, we had grown what I would consider a pretty successful restoration leader within the Chicagoland market.  Here are the top five things I’ve learned through this aggressive growth! 1. Size doesn’t matter! It’s funny to go to trade shows and

On Dec. 30, a fire sparked in the Denver suburb of Boulder, and quickly spread – doing more than $500 million in damage. In many cases, ATI was first on scene for restoration efforts, and partnered as much as possible with local emergency responders in the area. In

Q: I get 1-2 inquiries a month to buy my business, what’s the best way to respond?  JT says: Your response depends on what you want. I got an early start in home renovation projects with my dad and worked in home construction early in my career – into my early twenties – and immediately started acquiring grey hairs! It is perhaps a little ironic that one of my favorite pastimes is watching home improvement shows, in particular the “house flipping”

Freedom of Speech in the Workplace

Let me begin by saying this, employees do NOT have a constitutional right to free speech at work. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution begins, “Congress shall make no law…” Who is the Congress…the Federal Government and NOT private actors. “The First Amendment does not apply to private actors, and employers are private actors,” stated Attorney Grant Alexander. In 1866, the 14th Amendment expanded the Bill of Rights by stating it applied to state and local governments as well. There is no federal protection from anyone else including employers. Individual states have adopted
