Paul Davis Restoration of Tampa CAT Case Study

Hurricane Ian, a strong Category 4 hurricane, made landfall on the coast of Cayo Costa in southwestern Florida on September 28, 2022. It was the fourth largest storm to hit Florida and has been one of the largest recovery missions in state history. While Tampa sustained some damaged properties, the bulk of the devastation was further south. Paul Davis Restoration of Tampa received a dispatch the following day that one of our national commercial partners, Bass Pro Shops in Fort Myers, had sustained wind damage to their roof and had water inside their building. They

Using Curiosity to Improve Your Business

Managers often spend countless hours looking for the best ways to perform tasks, administer functions, and run departments. This often works well for a short period of time. However, to create an enduring business, managers should be curious and encourage curiosity.  Cultivating curiosity in business creates enduring businesses that are less likely to falter. In this article I cover three areas where curiosity can improve the performance of managers, sales teams, and production teams. The People “The best people don’t need to be managed. Guided, taught, led—yes. But not tightly managed.” -Jim Collins Curious companies

Micro/Macromanagement: Balancing Direction and Empowerment with Employees

Sometimes, people just need to be told what to do and how to do it. Such was the case recently with one of my clients after an employee of his was caught by a coworker drinking beer on the job site. Clearly, it was a violation of the company’s policy and grounds for immediate termination. Taking specific and immediate action was warranted, and handling such action in accordance with the proper procedures was necessary.  With these types of issues, leaders can choose to empower the immediate supervisor to handle things appropriately and expect (or

What’s With All the Negative Pressure Around Here? (And Why It’s A Good Thing)

On many water damage projects, we should create a condition of negative pressure also called negative air or a pressure differential. The main purpose of this negative pressure is to eliminate cross-contamination to unaffected spaces.  We create negative pressure by pushing or pulling air out of our contained space, causing air from the surrounding spaces to come into the space, replacing the air being removed. Think of how turning on the exhaust fan in a bathroom would cause air to come under the door from the hallway to replace the air being exhausted out.

Why Restoration Professionals Should Care About Business Income

As a restoration professional, you are the first responder in the aftermath of a disaster. Much like a paramedic or an emergency room physician, your task is to stabilize the situation and prevent further damage. It’s easy to get caught up in the immediate aftermath, focusing on debris, water, or smoke—what you can see and smell. Your goal, along

Add a Zero: I’ve Interviewed Over 500 Restoration Companies Looking to Sell: Here Are Three Key Considerations Every Buyer or Seller Should Make

Three years ago, our leadership team decided to tap into private equity to grow ATI through mergers and acquisitions. Ultimately, it was decided that I would oversee this department, and I transitioned into the role of ATI’s Chief Acquisitions Officer. What has followed is what I like to describe as trial by fire.  When we first started, our strategy was simple: buy full-service companies, meaning they have the capability to handle emergency services and full-service repairs in markets where we were not present. Our strategy quickly changed, as friends in the industry, our team,

Accountability – Why Do We Avoid It?

Right now, there are so many buzzwords floating around the workforce…some more annoying than others. Culture, safe space, alignment, bandwidth, deep dive, and out-of-the-box are a few on my radar that have created a paradigm shift and disruption for many companies. Buzzwords help to capture and define conversations as to what we see happening within the workforce. Accountability was a cringe-worthy buzzword for me simply because it was being overused without understanding the purpose or what it takes for accountability to be successful. See, accountability is rarely a natural characteristic people hold. People find
