Why Should They Call You?

There are so many choices for the consumer that when they need restoration services, the options are seemingly unlimited. To test this, I recently did a count in seven different market areas to try and understand how many restoration companies were listed, that offered disaster recovery services for the residential or commercial buildings. Not counting the major national firms that are ever-present, we included franchise locations as well as independents, and there was an average of 62 choices for the consumer in each market! We found that in the major areas like Atlanta or

Using Commercial Carpet Cleaning To Drive Water Losses

Life is strange. I began my career in the restoration industry because of two last-minute cancellations at my carpet and air duct cleaning business. My business partner, Larry, and I both had clients call us and cancel last minute, so we decided to meet up in a parking lot on a busy intersection to have lunch together. As we stood in the parking lot eating from our lunches next to our wrapped vans, a truck drove up to us and the driver leaned out and asked us if we did carpet and duct cleaning.

How Critical are Industry-Specific Advisors in M&A?

Q: How critical are industry-specific advisors as I develop my ‘exit plan’? JT says: Great question. Many advisors will say they’re able to assist. However, as you know, the restoration industry has many unique challenges. We essentially speak our own language. Thus, three reasons why industry advisors are best: Industry advisors and consultants are well-versed in best practices, helping you perfectly prepare and maximize value. An experienced industry M&A advisor knows the best buyers, both industry and Private Equity, creating speed and efficiency during the sales/negotiations process. (*Not ‘any’ buyers, the ‘best’ buyers.) Negotiations

The Great Insurance Crisis: 3 Steps for Restorers

The first time I ever left my house to a job interview to get into the restoration business, my car was covered in ash from the recent wildfires in the city where I lived. The year was 2003 and one of these fires was the largest recorded wildfire in California history, the Cedar Fire. Since 2003, the problem has literally exploded. In fact, the 8 largest California wildfires have all
